Instituto Piagaçu - monitoring and management of natural resources in the Brazilian Amazon

Instituto Piagaçu (IPi) is an NGO working on participatory monitoring, research and natural resource management in the Brazilian Amazon. In this video (in Portuguese), IPi staff and residents of the Piagaçu-Purus Sustainable Development Reserve explain how they work together on a range of programmes in the reserve. These are monitoring and sustainable harvesting of the spectacular and enormous pirarucu fish (Arapaima gigas); sustainable management of small ornamental discus fish; caiman conservation; monitoring and use of wildlife; agriculture and natural resource extraction; turtle conservation; and environmental education.
