Monitoring of the Andean Amazon Project

The Monitoring of the Andean Amazon Project (MAAP) is a web-based portal that presents technical information on the Andean Amazon (the montane Amazon forests of Bolivia, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru). A central part of their work is to present data and maps from high- and medium- resolution satellite imagery, as well as imagery from manned aircraft such as the Carnegie Institute for Science's airborne remote sensing project. Also presented on the website are thematic maps related to mining, logging, oil palm plantations, roads, hydroelectric dams, oil and gas development and coca plantations.

The intended audiences are policy makers, media, civil society and the public, in order to increase awareness of environmental change in the region and to influence policy and behaviours that will help slow deforestation in the region.

MAAP is a project of the Amazon Conservation Association and ACCA-Conservación Amazónica.
