Tropical forest tenure assessment - trends, challenges and opportunities

This report from the International Tropical Timber Organisation sets out to present and analyse the state of forest tenure in 39 tropical forest countries. It describes and measures changes in statutory forest tenure, identifies challenges facing forest communities and points out a number of opportunities to extend and speed up reform of statutory forest tenure and to deepen the exercise of community land and resource rights. The report is relevant for policy making to address livelihoods and forest conservation.

The report is based on research prepared for the International Conference on Forest Tenure, Governance & Enterprise: New Opportunities for Central & West Africa, which was held in a Yaounde, Cameroon, during May 2009.
