The Executor of the Administrative Contract of the Amarakaeri Communal Reserve (ECA-RCA), represents ten Harakmbut, Yine and Machiguenga indigenous communities that benefit from the reserve. It manages the reserve jointly with the national parks department of Peru (SERNANP).
ECA-RCA promotes both conservation and social benefits for its member communities, through participatory management of the communal reserve. It encourages susatinable use of natural resources, and the protection and strengthening of cultural identity of indigenous communities and other users of the reserve buffer zone.
ECA–RCA is involved in a community run monitoring programme to document and combat illegal mining and logging, helping develop a strategy to support the development of indigenous ‘life plans’. These will strengthen the communities' abilities to protect their territory and participate in decision making. It also pushes for climate change policies that will benefit indigenous peoples.
