The Woods Hole Research Center assesses threats to a safe climate and works with individuals, communities, governments, and NGOs to identify and implement opportunities to stabilise the global and regional climate.
WHRC has eight programmes, one of which is forest monitoring. This includes a global and regional forest mapping project across the tropics, as well as country mapping projects in the US, Mexico, Brazil and Peru, and community mapping projects. Woods Hole scientists combine fieldwork, satellite data and computer simulations to assist community groups, NGOs, and nations to quantify forest carbon stocks. They also work with REDD countries to create effective, transparent Monitoring, and Measurement, Reporting and Verification (M and MRV) systems for their carbon stocks.
