National Forestry Commission of Mexico
CONAFOR is a government agency, with the objectives of developing, supporting and promoting the conservation and restoration of Mexico's forests, and the priductive use of forests. It develops plans, programs and policies for sustainable forestry development. It is part of the Secretariat of the Environment and Natural Resources and was created on April 4, 2001.
CONAFOR works on a large number of themes, including supply chains, certification, forest fires, forest managment, environmental services and climate change. It is one of the key bodies preparing REDD+ actions and strategies for Mexico, and as part of this, CONAFOR worked with civil society bodies to develop a community-based forest monitoring programme, described in this video.
