World Resources Institute
WRI is a global research organisation that spans more than 50 countries, with offices in countries including the United States, China, India, Brazil and Indonesia. They aim to develop ideas that can help to sustain natural resources, and then work with decision-makers to turn these into action. WRI's research focuses on six critical issues: climate, energy, food, forests, water, and cities and transport.
WRI's work on forests includes the Global Forest Watch initiative. This uses satellite data and crowd-sourced information to track deforestation throughout the world in near-real-time.
WRI also has a Global Restoration Initative for forests, which identifies ways to restore trees and productivity to deforested and degraded lands, and the Forest Legality Alliance helps businesses eliminate illegally sourced woods from their supply chains. WRI also makes policy recommendations, aiming for the effective and inclusive governance of the world’s forest resources.
